The delta area of Kokemäki river is one of the most flood-sensitive areas in Finland. The City of Pori is currently investing in extensive flood control activities. The main goal in the development of the 3D model of Kokemäki river delta is the simulation of various scenarios of flood like ice dam, heavy rain etc.
The 3D model of Kokemäki river delta-area is based on lidar data acquired in May 2008 as well as sonar data of the riverbed. The resolution of the lidar data is 1.67 pixels per square meter on the average. The model was calculated in 2.5 m raster format and transformed into TIN format for visualization purposes.
The development of the 3D river model was started in a Innogeo project and carried on in another EU-financed project on Remote Sensing Data Analysis in Flood Modeling.
